We will have a baptismal service on
July 25 - David Jones and Molly Dawson are planning
on being baptized. Come and celebrate with them!. If you are interested, please contact Brad
Speaks or Dave McDonald. Our food drive
supports Hillcrest Ministries which helps homeless
people transition into living on their own. They
continually need canned goods, non-perishable food,
diapers, etc. Gift cards from grocery stores are
appreciated! Call Cindy or David McDonald at
223-3740 for details. Give cards to Cindy. Right now
they can use diapers, deodorant, disposable razors and
toothpaste, in addition to food items and gift cards.
In preparation for our fall clothing and school supply
give-away, we are looking for anyone who can KNIT.
If you can knit scarves to give to kids this fall,
please contact Mary Schultz. Click

for some easy patterns!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: If you would like to help in the
service area of our ministry by cleaning the building
once a week for a month during 2010 as a family or part
of a group, please contact Mary Kay at 373-6155 or
recycler4earth@comcast.net.
We also need several people to clean up after each
monthly potluck. HELP SEND A STUDENT TO COLLEGE!
Open Arm's Scholarship fund was established to help
students wishing to pursue higher educational
opportunities at Graceland University. Open Arm's
scholarships are then matched by Graceland University to
further reduce student expenses up to $1500! Just write
"Scholarship" on your offering envelope under Local
giving. A SPECIAL THANKS
to anyone and everyone who has been involved in teaching
a class at Open Arms at 9:30 a.m. We continually look
for persons who can assist in that way. A class for
Children and Youth Workers will be held this fall.
Please be sure to attend, if you anticipate working with
our children and youth! Join
us on Facebook!

Recycling centers - Independence has two
recycling centers. The one at 13600 E. 35th Street
is open Fridays from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturdays
from 8 am to 4 pm. The one at 875 Vista Avenue is
open Sundays from 8 am to 4 pm and Mondays from 10
am to 6 pm. They're open year-around! Donations
being collected! We are collecting school supplies
on an ongoing basis in order to have enough to share at
the start of the school year. Also, we are collecting
gently used warm coats in good condition to share with
those who need them. Please bring them to church to give
to Eric. Help with sewing?
We are searching for anyone interested in making pillows
for new children and babies who come to Open Arms. It
involves mainly straight stitching, embroidery or satin
stitch for the heart, stuffing with filling, and closing
the stuffing hole.
Another ongoing sewing project is sewing small
banners for children who are baptized to give to them
after they are confirmed. This is also all straight
stitching. Contact Mary Rae at 836-1312 if you are
interested in helping.
