Disciple's Generous Response
|
|
We are asked to be generous in our response to God's
grace. Generosity encompasses more than simply our finances--but our
finances are important. Each week we will share something that helps us
understand how we touch others.
As we give
our
offerings
each week,
we might
wonder
exactly how
they make a
difference
in places
that we will
never
personally
visit.

Thirty years ago the United States
of America sent Peace Corps
volunteers to Bolivia. Listening to
the still, small voice within,
Community of Christ members Duane
and Marlene Anderson listened to
their hearts and returned to the
country after their volunteer
service. The Andersons helped to
develop CEDESPAR, an organization
that works with communities in
holistic ways. Recently CEDESPAR was
drawn to the potential of a tea
growers’ cooperative in Chapare.
Their AgroTe tea and green tea is
popular throughout Bolivia. When its
packager’s commitment expired, the
cooperative did not have a way to
get its products to market. CEDESPAR
worked with AgroTe to get the market
back and expand it.
A World Hunger grant helped buy an
automated bagging machine. Now 103
families have jobs and can put food
on their tables. Using skills
learned through working with the
Andersons, in Community of Christ,
and at college, CEDESPAR’s young
adults are well on their way to
transforming their country. Your
contributions to World Hunger
provide tangible help to families in
need. Thank you for responding
faithfully by sharing so very
generously.
